Thomas à Kempis (c. 1380 – 1471) was a German-Dutch canon regular, serving as a subprior in an Augustinian monastery in the Northeastern Netherlands. A copyist, writer, and teacher, Thomas was immersed in Scripture, especially the New Testament. This profound working knowledge of the Gospels is evident in his writings. His works emphasize a passion for a deeper spiritual life and a more intimate walk with Jesus.
